My Path to School
My Journey from Home
Starting the Day
Every morning, when the sun rises and the birds begin to chirp, something wonderful happens — you wake up and get ready for school! But have you ever stopped to think about the journey you take from your home to your school? This journey is special because it is your journey, unique to you, filled with familiar sights, sounds, and friendly faces.
The path between home and school is not just a route on a map. It is a part of your daily routine, a journey of discovery, and a time when you learn to be safe, independent, and observant. Let us explore what makes this journey so important and interesting!

What Does "Journey" Mean?
A journey is the act of travelling from one place to another. When you leave your home in the morning and walk, ride, or travel to school, you are on a journey. Every journey has three important parts:
Starting Point – Your home, where you begin.
The Path – The roads, streets, or lanes you follow.
Destination – Your school, where you arrive.
Your journey from home to school might be short or long, quiet or busy, but it is always full of things to see, hear, and learn!

My Home: Where My Journey Begins
Home is the most special place in the world for you. It is where you live with your family — your parents, siblings, grandparents, or anyone else who loves and cares for you. Home is where you feel safe, comfortable, and happy.
Every morning, your journey begins right here. You might:
Wake up in your cosy bed
Brush your teeth and wash your face
Eat a healthy breakfast with your family
Put on your school uniform
Pack your school bag with books, a water bottle, and a tiffin box
Say goodbye to your family members
All these activities are part of your morning routine — the things you do regularly every day before you step out of your home.

Getting Ready: Why Routine Matters
A routine is a set of actions that you do in the same order every day. Having a morning routine helps you:
Save time – You know exactly what to do, so you don't waste time.
Stay organized – Everything is in its place and ready.
Feel confident – You are prepared and ready for the day ahead.
Be punctual – You reach school on time without rushing.
When you follow a routine, your morning becomes smooth and stress-free. You are not running around looking for your socks or forgetting your homework at the last minute!

Saying Goodbye with Love
Before you step out of your home, you do something very important — you say goodbye to your family. This is a special moment! You might:
Hug your parents or grandparents
Say "Goodbye!" or "See you later!"
Receive blessings or a kiss on your forehead
Promise to be careful and safe
This loving goodbye reminds you that your family cares for you and will be waiting for you when you return. It gives you confidence and happiness as you begin your journey.
"A loving goodbye at home fills your heart with warmth and courage for the day ahead."

Different Ways to Travel
Not everyone travels from home to school in the same way. Some children walk, some ride a bicycle, some go in a car or auto-rickshaw, and some take a school bus. Let us look at the different ways children travel:
Mode of Travel
What It Means
When It Is Used
Walking
Going on foot
When school is nearby and the path is safe
Bicycle
Riding a two-wheeler
For slightly longer distances, with adult supervision
Car or Auto
Travelling in a vehicle with family or driver
When distance is more or weather is bad
School Bus
Riding in a bus with other children
When school provides transport service
Each way of travelling is special and has its own rules and safety tips. No matter how you travel, the most important thing is to be safe and alert!
{{KEY: type=exam | title=Common Question | text=You may be asked to describe or draw your journey from home to school, mentioning the mode of transport you use and what you see on the way. Practice drawing simple pictures and writing 3-4 sentences about your journey.}}
Observing Along the Way
Even if your journey is very short, you can see and learn so many things! As you travel, you might notice:
Houses and buildings – Homes of your neighbours, shops, or parks
Trees and plants – Green trees, colourful flowers, or birds sitting on branches
People – Shopkeepers opening their shops, people going to work, children playing
Vehicles – Cars, buses, bicycles, motorcycles moving on the road
Signs and signals – Traffic lights, zebra crossings, road signs
Being observant means paying attention to the world around you. It helps you learn new things, stay safe, and enjoy your journey!
{{ZOOM: title=Why Observing Matters | text=When you observe carefully, you learn about your surroundings and develop awareness. Observing traffic signals, road signs, and people around you also keeps you safe. Great learners are great observers!}}
Let's Reflect
Think about your own journey from home to school. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine:
What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Who helps you get ready?
How do you travel to school?
What is your favourite thing you see on the way?
Every child's journey is different, and that is what makes it special. In the coming pages, we will explore more about the places you pass, the people you meet, and the safety rules you must follow on your journey.
Remember: Your journey from home to school is the beginning of a new day full of learning, friendship, and fun. Enjoy every moment of it!
Let's move forward and discover what lies between home and school!
